Theo Dorsey, Sports Director at WALB News Center 10 Visits New Packer Facilities
Complete with a 100-yard artificial turf field, Colquitt County High School’s new indoor facility is the envy of football programs across the nation. The Packers have been breaking it in this spring.
This afternoon was their 2nd to last spring practice in the facility that spans over 73 thousand square feet. But of course with every delight comes its set of problems.
One of the largest setbacks: the facility is so nice, the student-athletes never want to play outside. “Now its a big debate with coach (Rush) Propst and the players with where we’re practicing at,” said Packers assistant Jeff Kent.
“Quite a few colleges keep saying they won’t be able to recruit our kids because our facilities are better than theirs,” said Packers assistant Mo Dixon. The Packers also have a new weight room equipped with a 25-yard turf field. It’s the perfect spot for the packers to train as they look to avenge last year’s state runner up finish.
