Colquitt Defeats McEachern (41-7) at the Corky Kell Classic
August 21, 2018 – Moultrie, GA
The Colquitt County Packers defeated the McEachern Indians in their season opening game at the Corky Kell Classic (video highlights above). Played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta, each team put their national rankings to the test. The game was not without big plays. Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald made field goals from 53 and 51 yards for the Packers. Junior running back Daijun Edwards carried the ball from the Packer backfield for 162 yards. The Packer defense flexed its muscle throughout the game as well. They held McEachern to 28 yards rushing, picked off two passes, and sacked the MacEachern quarterback three times.
In a post-game interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Coach Rush Propst stated “we’re still a work in progress. We’ve got seven games before we start region play.” He further added “it was a good statement to start here, and if we’re lucky, we’ll come back here in December (for the state championship game).”
Colquitt returns to Mack Tharpe stadium in Moultrie on Saturday, August 25th where they host nationally ranked Trinity Catholic from Missouri. Trinity is 21-2 over the last two seasons and has the 2017 Missouri Offensive Player of the Year on their Roster.
