Valdosta Over Colquitt 50-49
September 16, 2019 – Moultrie, GA
In an epic rivalry game that saw both teams combine for 1,250 total yards it would be Valdosta sealing the win in a rivalry series that goes back to 1913 and to the days when Moultrie High School became Colquitt County High in 1978. (Game Highlights Recap Video Above)
743 yards of potent offense would not be enough for Colquitt to seal the deal as Valdosta with it’s own 507 claimed the victory in front of a packed crowd at Bazemore–Hyder Stadium at Cleveland Field in Valdosta, Georgia.
Colquitt’s Harden went 26-for-42 for 414 yards with five touchdowns and one interception while Valdosta’s Tate Rodemaker completed 17-of-24 passes for 281 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Daijun Edwards had 169 yards on 16 carries, a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown in the game.
The game was full of great contributions by many players as can be seen in the highlights video. One such moment was the 95-yard touchdown run on a kick-off return by Montavious Ponder who pulled an escape move on would-be tacklers that might make Houdini envious were he still around.
The Valdosta win snapped a six-game losing streak against Colquitt in the rivalry series. Colquitt drops to 2-1 on the season and will host a 3-0 Warner Robins Demons team this Friday, September 20, 2019 with an 8 PM kickoff at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium in Moultrie. The Demons are coming off a 37-14 win over Baldwin.
